This diagram is a flow chart showing key components to consider when trying to control and hold down your opponent.  In various combination,  the goal of these techniques is to:

  1. Block the near side hip.  This helps keep your opponent’s knee from sliding in to reguard.
  2. Isolate and kill/control the near side arm.
  3. Isolate and control the far side arm
  4. Control the Head of your opponent

These key points will help you staple down and control your opponent from cross side.
